CALGARY, AB (April 29, 2014) – Alex MacLean, owner of East Coast Lifestyle Clothing Incorporated and full-time student at Acadia University, has been named 2014 Student Entrepreneur National Champion by this country’s largest student leadership development organization, Enactus Canada, and proud program supporter, the John Dobson Foundation, as part of the Student Entrepreneur National Competition.

Alex received the title of Student Entrepreneur National Champion after beating out hundreds of other student entrepreneurs from across Canada through provincial, regional and national rounds of competition. He received the national title at the Enactus Canada National Exposition in Calgary.

A panel of Canada’s top entrepreneurs and business leaders voted Alex national champion for his accomplishments with his brand, East Coast Lifestyle, which started as a classroom project with the goal of selling 30 hoodies and after about a year in operation has sold over 250,000 products.

East Coast Lifestyle has exploded in popularity across Atlantic Canada – and the world – being worn by over 60 international celebrities including Sidney Crosby, Classified, Nathan MacKinnon and Kim Coates. Not one to stand aside while others struggle, Alex has shared his success by giving back to homeless shelters and organizations for disabled children in his community.

“Alex embodies the entrepreneurial spirit that built this country,” said Enactus Canada president Nicole Almond. “He has not only built a business, he has built a brand that people really connect with and there is unlimited potential for further growth.”

As National Champion, Alex received a $10,000 cash prize and took home the John Dobson Cup.
